Basic Purpose This position will service as a resident engineering leader at client site. Candidates should be familiar with automobile development cycle and able to understand the design requirements of vehicle packaging. Additionally, candidates should have a basic understanding of how to package and manufacture automotive components in order to support the creation of development parts (RDDP). This engineer will have a temporary training period at DTC prior to becoming part of a development team in client site as design-in. RESPONSIBILITIES: Inputs and maintains product design data (3D and 2D) on client's CAD system throughout the developmental phases of assigned projects. Outputs data and drawings and distributes to all necessary locations with timeliness and accuracy. Works closely with other departments in company/ at client in order to maintain the communication levels necessary for project success. Serves as the lead engineer of for assigned projects, including the development of the project schedule and monitoring the status of reporting engineers and their open issues. Responsible for understanding Standards and procedures and following them closely throughout the course of assigned projects. Responsible for understanding the Design Standard and applying them to both initial harness development and harness evaluations. Responsible for providing design information and scheduling to component design department and validation department to meet vehicle requirement and project milestones. Visits client’s manufacturing plants through the customer's RE (Resident Engineer) program to investigate quality and workability problems in the vehicle and apply effective countermeasures. Visits manufacturing plants at planned stages of the project to review harness quality and workability and to explain harness critical points to manufacturing members. Analyzes product design activity for improvement, and develops design quality controls for the benefit of future projects. Understands routing, circuitry, and component design, and can lead the R & D effort for next generation vehicles.
