International Development
International Finance Corporation (IFC) —a sister organization of the World Bank and member of the World Bank Group—is the largest global development institution focused exclusively on the private sector in developing countries. The Bank Group has set two goals for the world to achieve by 2030: end extreme poverty and promote shared prosperity in every country. We leverage our products and services—as well as products and services of other institutions across the World Bank Group—to create markets that address the biggest development challenges of our time. We apply our financial resources, technical expertise, global experience, and innovative thinking to help our clients and partners overcome financial, operational, and other challenges.
IFC is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in developing countries. IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, advances economic development and improves the lives of people by encouraging the growth of the private sector in developing countries. We achieve this by creating new markets, mobilizing other investors, and sharing expertise. In doing so, we create jobs and raise living standards, especially for the poor and vulnerable.
To end extreme poverty: By reducing the share of the global population that lives in extreme poverty to 3 percent by 2030. To promote shared prosperity: By increasing the incomes of the poorest 40 percent of people in every country.
Our staff work with governments, civil society groups, the private sector and others in developing countries around the world, assisting people in all areas of development, from policy and strategic advice to the identification, preparation, appraisal and supervision of development projects.
Our products and services are designed to meet the needs of clients in different industries, including infrastructure, manufacturing, agribusiness, services and financial markets. Our financial products enable companies to manage risk and broaden their access to foreign and domestic capital markets. Investment services product lines include loans, equity investments, trade and commodity finance, derivatives and structured finance and blended finance. We also play a catalytic role in mobilizing additional funding through parallel loans, loan participations, partial credit guarantees, securitizations, loan sales, risk sharing facilities and fund investments. By attracting new investors, we introduce our clients to new sources of capital and better ways of doing business.
We face big challenges to help the world’s poorest people and ensure that everyone sees benefits from economic growth. Data and research help us understand these challenges and set priorities, share knowledge of what works, and measure progress.
The World Bank Group works in more than 170 countries, working with partners in the public and private sectors in their efforts to end poverty and tackle some of the most pressing development challenges.
We recognize that poverty has no borders. Neither does excellence. We are continually in search of the brightest, most talented individuals from around the globe.
